Guia 3 newsroom · edited by Annie GrellmannPortuguêsEspañol
The flow of the Iguaçu Falls is 11,969 m³/s, placing it among the 4% highest in the Guia 3 series since 06/17/2026.
The measurement today indicates that 11,969 m³/s of water pass through the falls of the Iguaçu Falls. This flow corresponds to 4.8 Olympic pools per second (an Olympic pool holds 2,500 m³). To understand the number, flow is the volume of water that passes a point each second; the higher it is, the more intense the current, the louder the noise, and the more mist on the walkways.
Compared to the long-term historical average of about 1,500 m³/s, the current is 8.0 times above average, placing it at the top of the 4% highest in the series measured by Guia 3 since 06/17/2026. When the flow exceeds the 8,000-9,000 m³/s range, the Brazilian park usually closes the main walkway for safety, following visitor protection protocols.
What this means for you: with the current flow, there is a risk that the main walkway of the Iguaçu Falls may be closed. Before planning your visit, check the daily status at /cataratas-hoje or on the official park website to confirm which sections are operational and plan alternatives, such as viewing the falls from viewpoints or less affected areas.
