While the gauges are down, follow the two flows that make up the Paraná here: Itaipu released 21,614 m³/s on 23/10 (turbines and spillway, ONS data), and the Iguazú River is running at 9,536 m³/s at the Falls, rising. When the Iguazú floods it backs up the Paraná; when both drop, the Paraná drops.
River running high. In a flood, what floods first is the low zone of Ciudad del Este, not the bridge or the downtown shops, which sit on high ground. Boat tours on the Paraná are the first to be suspended: confirm with the operator.
