Padel Tournament in Puerto Iguazú Highlights HPV Talk

During the women's padel tournament for Pink October in Puerto Iguazú, researcher Lucía Acuña of IMiBio delivered a presentation on breast cancer, cervical cancer and HPV. The presentation focused on prevention, emphasizing the need for Pap smear exams, molecular tests and vaccination. Acuña, who leads the HPV research line at IMiBio, noted that the institute has been studying the virus for six years, performing clinical diagnosis by PCR and genotyping circulating variants in the province. The event was attended by players and their families and was supported by the Cuídate Iguazú group. Acuña highlighted that Misiones and Formosa are the two provinces with the highest incidence of HPV and cervical cancer in the country, and that science must be communicated to the community so diagnostic tools are effectively used. The final message was that high-risk HPV spreads silently, requiring annual check-ups and vaccination to prevent complications.
