Third count of the year will take place this Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the Gramadão da Vila A
The Parque das Aves will conduct its third census of true parrots (Amazona aestiva) of 2026 this Wednesday (4). The survey will begin at 6 p.m. in the Gramadão da Vila A, in Foz do Iguaçu, and is open to the public.

The event, organized by the Parque das Aves, marks the third edition of the census held in 2026. In the first two counts, the teams recorded 557 and 432 individuals, respectively, according to the park’s data.
Marina Somenzari, Conservation Manager, highlighted that the variations between the counts provide relevant information about behavioral changes throughout the year. Luiza Araujo, Pedagogical Supervisor of Conservation Education, explained that the number of birds observed can fluctuate due to movements related to breeding and food searching.
The Gramadão da Vila A serves as a collective dormitory, housing parrots from different regions, including Paraguay. During the day, the animals move to feeding areas and return to the site at dusk.
Community participation allows observers to follow field work, watch bird behavior, and contribute to scientific knowledge, within the park’s citizen science proposal.
