Iguazu Falls: Brazil or Argentina side? Both, in this order

Guia 3 newsroom · edited by Annie GrellmannUpdated on PortuguêsEspañol

The Brazilian side gives you the panorama in half a day; the Argentine side needs a full one

It is not a choice, it is an order. The Brazilian side delivers the panorama in half a day and the Argentine side needs a full one. And in 2026 one detail changes the plan.

Direct answer: Visit both, in this order: start with the Brazilian side, which gives you the panorama of the whole falls in 3 to 4 hours, then go to the Argentine side, which needs a full day (6 to 8 hours) for the three circuits plus the train. One day each. In 2026 there is a point that changes the plan: the Devil's Throat boardwalk on the Argentine side is closed as of August.

The difference in one line

Brazil is panorama. Argentina is immersion.

On the Brazilian side you walk facing the whole set of falls, seeing them from outside, with the Devil's Throat in the background. It is the postcard view.

On the Argentine side you walk above and below the falls, among them. Around 80% of the drops sit in Argentine territory, and the circuits take you inside the set.

What changed in 2026

The Devil's Throat boardwalk has been closed since 3 August 2026: the Argentine park removed the structures as a precaution against the river flood, and reopening depends on the water level dropping.

The other Argentine circuits run normally, and the Brazilian side is complete. But if the Devil's Throat was your main reason to cross, check first: is the Devil's Throat open?

In which order

Technically either works, but most people prefer the Brazilian side first: you grasp the geography of the whole from outside, then step into it. Doing it the other way round, people tend to find the Brazilian side "smaller", when it is simply a different kind of view.

The discount almost nobody uses

On the Argentine side, a second consecutive day comes at 50% off. Validation happens as you leave on the first day, not as you enter on the second: miss that and you lose the benefit.

Can you do both in one day?

You can, but it becomes a marathon: 3 to 4 hours on one side, 6 to 8 on the other, a border crossing with immigration control and two separate tickets. The day runs past twelve hours.
