Buy rate of the real fell 6.25% at Paraguayan exchange houses on the morning of October 28

On the morning of Wednesday, October 28, the buy rate of the real at exchange houses in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, fell from 1,120 to 1,050 guaraníes, a drop of about 6.25%. The Chamber of Commerce and Services of Ciudad del Este (CCSC) also recorded a reduction in the sell rate, from 1,180 to 1,170 guaraníes.

The devaluation of the real raised an alert among merchants in the border region of Ciudad del Este, where shopping tourism heavily depends on Brazilian consumers. According to the CCSC, the lower buy rate could reduce visitors' purchasing power and affect price competitiveness in local trade.

CCSC president Said Taigen said that business owners are accustomed to currency fluctuations (dollar, real and guaraní) and expect exchange rates to stabilize in the coming weeks. However, there is concern because many prices in Paraguayan stores and malls are tied to the dollar, and the approach of Black Friday could increase the risk of a decline in buyer flow.

Taigen also emphasized the importance of cooperation between Brazilian and Paraguayan entrepreneurs, highlighting the joint promotion of trade, tourism and hotel-network events in Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este.
