Holiday event becomes annual in December with food court
The City Hall of Foz do Iguaçu sanctioned three laws on October 16, including the one that formalizes the Water and Lights Christmas as an annual December event. The regulations were published in the Official Gazette on October 19.
Law 5,760 changes the city’s official event calendar, replacing the former "Iguazu Falls Christmas" with the name "Water and Lights Christmas." According to the legal text, the event will be held every December, featuring cultural, artistic and tourist activities in various locations throughout Foz do Iguaçu.
The legislation authorizes the installation of food courts during the period, subject to approval by the Organizing Committee and compliance with existing regulations. The stated goal is to boost tourism and local commerce. Each edition may adopt an additional annual theme for promotional purposes.
The other two enacted laws address administrative matters. Law 5,761 amends the rule that creates the Municipal Conference and the Municipal Fund for the Rights of the Elderly, defining the Conference as a deliberative collegiate body and linking the Fund to the Secretariat responsible for social assistance policy. Law 5,762 revokes a property-use permit granted in 2011 to the Vila “A” Residents Association (AMVA).
